BC Elections 2026
Lawyer Niki Sharma removed by the B.C. Electorate as Attorney General and Deputy Premier along with the BC NDP.
Lorne Doerkson becomes the Premier Of British Columbia with a majority sweep in the provincial elections.
The BC NDP took a gamble and lost
The public elected the B.C. Conservative party by a majority
In 2025, the BC SPGA started a campaign, the Campaign For Justice For Animals And People With Pets In Veterinary Care. There was public outrage that animals are being seized by the BC SPCA while in the care and treatment of a licensed veterinarian and the pet owners are prosecuted in the Courts and BCFIRB appeals tribunal. The B.C. Attorney General Niki Sharma received emails when the campaign started from people with pets and animals all over the province that it is unfair to prosecute people who seek or have veterinary care for their pets and with a request to make the laws fair. Niki Sharma refused to consider or reply to the public outrage.
A spokesperson for the BC SPGA said,Niki Sharma has shown the people with pets and animals in the province that abiding by animal welfare laws is not good enough to stop prosecutions and animals seizures instigated by the BC SPCA while the animals are receiving or under the treatment by a licensed veterinarian. Niki Sharma's position may have contributed to the downfall of the BC NDP in the 2026 elections. When a volunteer of the society then started a constitutional challenge petition, the now former Attorney General and Deputy Premier, Niki Sharma fought against that tooth and nail.
Former Attorney General and Deputy Premier Niki Sharma has a law practice that focusses on indigenous claims. A commentary by Bruce Pardy in The National Post, Eby bringing B.C. to its knees with Aboriginal land deals mentioned that, "In fact, her NDP government, led by Premier David Eby, has been doing everything in its power to have Aboriginal title triumph across B.C.".
It is finally dawning on British Columbians that obsequious devotion to reconciliation is putting their land at risk. Sharma claimed that B.C. was pursuing multiple grounds of appeal, but that makes her a hypocrite. Her government did not robustly defend in court against the Cowichan claim. And in a dozen other ways, the Eby government has sought to put title and control of B.C. into Aboriginal hands.Commentary: Bruce Pardy THE NATIONAL POST, October 28, 2025.

You Can Change The Outcome
People with pets and animals have a Voice
The BC SPGA advocates for careful selection of incumbents in the upcoming 2026 provincial elections.
The BC SPGA believes that voters deserve clear answers on policies affecting people and the animals they care for and as British Columbians consider the future direction of their province, animal welfare is gaining greater recognition as an issue that extends beyond the treatment of animals.
B.C. People with pets and animals struggle with unprecedented challenges.
The BC NDP's Animal Welfare Record
Consists of Neglect and Broken Trust
Data and campaigns from the BC SPGA indicate that the BC NDP has failed to deliver on past election promises to eliminate unfair "no-pets" clauses in rental housing. This ongoing regulatory inaction continues to place severe strain on vulnerable pet guardians and animal shelters across the province.
Beyond the stalemate on residential pet-friendly tenancy laws, the BC SPGA highlights continuous provincial inaction across several other critical initiatives:
• Financial Relief Initiatives: The BC NDP government has failed to act on proposals for a BC Pet Bonus and an annual Pet Tax Credit.
These measures were designed to provide relief for British Columbians with pets and animals who are struggling with skyrocketing veterinary bills, pet care emergencies, and taxed pet food.
• Animal Enforcement Reform:
With the Chief of the BC SPCA animal policing unit, Marcie Moriarity, under RCMP investigation the provincial government has repeatedly looked the other way. The BC NDP has ignored calls to transition animal control and policing from private charities to an impartial, transparent government-run system.
• Constitutional Oversight: BC NDP Attorney General Niki Sharma leads the fight against responsible people with pets
BC NDP Attorney General Niki Sharma who oversees the courts in British Columbia decisive efforts to have a constitutional challenge under section 7 of the Canadian Charter Of Rights And Freedoms, which aimed to protect responsible people with pets and animals under veterinary care from seizure by the BC SPCA dismissed in the BC Supreme Court.
The BC NDP Attorney General Niki Sharma whose law practice focusses on indigenous claims showed that even people with pets who have properties may not have their property titles sustained.
In addition, the Attorney General's office met a widespread BC SPGA public email campaign with total silence, refusing to address controversial enforcement practices — such as the seizure of pets while they are actively undergoing licensed veterinary care. This lack of response ultimately forced a volunteer led Constitutional Challenge under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
